Sociología de la tenencia responsable de mascotas en el sur del Ecuador (El Oro)

La tenencia responsable de mascotas es una práctica social que compete a la sociología de las relaciones humano-animal, poco estudiada en América Latina y sin datos recientes para el sur del Ecuador. El objetivo fue describir los conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas (CAP) de tutores de mascotas en El Oro e identificar las brechas entre disposición y práctica. Mediante un diseño transversal descriptivo-relacional, se aplicó una encuesta anónima con muestreo por bola de nieve (10–25 de junio de 2025). Sobre 451 tutores se calcularon frecuencias y se contrastaron asociaciones con χ² (Monte Carlo), Kruskal-Wallis y razón de momios (OR). El 70,6 % de los animales no estaba esterilizado, el 46,6 % recibía atención veterinaria reactiva o nula y el 84,3 % conocía poco o nada la Ley de Bienestar Animal; el 76,0 % nunca se había capacitado, pero el 81,7 % apoyaría campañas comunitarias. La capacitación previa se asoció con mayor esterilización (OR = 1,64; IC 95 % [1,03; 2,60]). Coexisten alto capital social cívico y una práctica de cuidado deficitaria: la disposición a colaborar no depende del conocimiento de la ley (χ² = 4,24; p = ,371). Se discuten implicaciones para educación, acceso veterinario y política local
